Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 - Friday 25 January, 9.30am-12.30pm

Ours schools play an essential role in Holocaust Memorial Day, so we would like to invite you, or your representative, with up to five pupils to join Mayor Rokshana Fiaz, council members, local residents and invited guests to this years Holocaust Memorial Day 2019 on  Friday 25 January, 9.30am-12.30pm at East Ham Town Hall, Barking Road, E6 2RP

We would also like to invite pupils to participate in the ceremony, perhaps through presenting a short piece of drama, dance, music or poetry at the event or by displaying art or writing focused on this year’s theme ‘Torn From Home’.

This theme helps us to reflect on how the loss of a safe place to call “home” is part of the trauma faced by anyone experiencing persecution and genocide.

This year, we are honoured to be welcoming back guest speaker and Holocaust survivor Harry Olmer.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Dominique Roome (Dominique.roome@newham.gov.uk) as soon as possible as there are a limited number of performance slots/display opportunities.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by Monday 14 January to dominique.roome@newham.gov.uk with the name of the adult that will lead the party and the number of pupils you plan to bring.

The Holocaust Educational Trust has advised that owing to the content and subject matter of the presentation, the event is suitable for pupils in Year 6 and above. Additional information can be found on the following link www.newham.gov.uk/hmd

We do hope that you will be able to participate and attend.
