A reminder that schools wishing to use their Apprenticeship Levy contribution to recruit an apprentice in September 2019 should complete the request form and return it by the deadline of 7th May.
This applies to all schools where Newham Council is the employer, as they pay their Levy contribution into the Council's Apprenticeship Levy account.
Schools are reminded that they need to follow the process outlined on the Newham Connect Apprenticeships page and complete and submit the request form on the website by the extended deadline.
The Levy can only be used to pay for approved Apprenticeship training costs, and schools can use the Levy to upskill existing staff via apprenticeships or use it to pay the training costs of newly recruited apprentices. If you have unqualified staff and are paying the Levy, please consider whether these staff could become qualified through apprenticeships. The information on the Newham Connect website contains information, guidance and FAQs as well as explaining the Levy process for schools and the request form on the site contains a list of apprenticeships that are available.
Once we receive the completed requests from schools, Newham Council will procure apprenticeship training provision for the 2019/20 academic year, and will advise schools of the training providers by the end of June.
