New Model Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy for September 2019

The new Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), currently in draft comes into force on 2nd September 2019. This can be found at www.gov.uk. Schools and settings Child Protection and Safeguarding policies will need updating to reflect the changes. Whilst there are no significant changes, there are some additions and minor amendments which can be found at the back of the document. The new model policy reflects those changes and includes:

  • new references to 'upskirting' and the new criminal offence under the Voyeurism (Offences) Act 2019.
  • The new safeguarding arrangements to be known as the Newham Safeguarding Children Partnership (NSCP)
  • A new section covering the specific safeguarding issue of Serious Violence
  • Inclusion of female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage under the heading of Honour Based Violence (HBV)
  • Reference to the new RSE curriculum.

I recommend that only changes that personalise the policy to your school or setting are made and the main text is retained as set out in the model policy.
